Most of us live very busy lives. It’s true. We hear about it in the media every day. We tell each other about how busy we are when we meet up.
“How are you?”
“Oh, I’m just so busy right now!”
We wear our busyness like a badge of honor. As if it gives our lives significance and value. But being busy does not mean that we are being productive. All of that running around wears us out without really getting us anywhere. Soon we can become disenchanted with our lives. We know that it’s not working for us, but we don’t really know why.
I’ll let you in on a little secret… When life gets loud, we need to get quiet. When we are quiet we can really focus and reflect on where we are at right now. We can evaluate our current situation and make course corrections as necessary. We can hear the gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit giving us guidance for every step of the journey.
Before your brain begins to protest –“I don’t have time to get quiet!”- take a deep breath and dare to be quiet for just a moment. Listen to your heart and allow yourself to get calm. Once you experience the refreshment that a little quiet time can bring, you will find yourself craving it more and more each day.
Carve out time for reflection. Your heart will thank you.
