We are living in a world where people are constantly on the move, running from thing to thing, and then collapsing every night due to exhaustion. Our to-do lists are a mile long and our calendars are over-flowing with commitments. It all seems never-ending, so what can we do? simplify: verb (used with object) to make less complex or complicated, make plainer or easier. What does the word “excess” bring to mind? The most common definition of excess is to have more than is needed. Do you have any areas with excess in your life? Some examples might be: an excess of obligations, financial issues, or stress. Or maybe you just have too much stuff. Excess slows us down. It complicates our lives and makes the journey more difficult. Letting go of excess helps us to lighten our load and simplify our lives. I didn’t intend to have a complicated life. Honest. In fact, I thought that my life would be easier since I had been “downsized” from my job. Yet I found myself with an overcrowded calendar, a home bursting at the seams with “stuff,” and an incredibly cranky family. Not to mention an incredibly cranky me! That old saying, “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!” is so true. How did it all get so crazy? Piano lessons, sports team practices and games, homework, church activities, music performances, parent-teacher organization meetings, my husband’s overloaded schedule…on and on and on. Added to
